NVIDIA RTX PRO vs GeForce RTX: workstation vs gaming graphics cards
Why a GeForce RTX 5090 and an RTX PRO 6000 can share the same chip yet differ in drivers, memory, ECC, certification, warranty and price - and which one your work needs.
Same silicon, different product
GeForce RTX (5090, 5080, 5070 Ti…) is built for gaming and creators; NVIDIA RTX PRO (formerly Quadro: RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell, RTX 6000 Ada, RTX 4000 Ada…) is built for engineering, design, visualisation and AI development. Both use the same GPU architecture; the professional card changes what sits around it.
| GeForce RTX | NVIDIA RTX PRO | |
|---|---|---|
| VRAM | 8 - 32 GB GDDR7, no ECC | 16 - 96 GB GDDR7/6 with ECC |
| Drivers | Game Ready / Studio | Enterprise drivers, ISV-certified (SolidWorks, Catia, Revit, Siemens NX, Dassault, Adobe) |
| Form factor | 2.5-4 slots, high-RPM fans, 300-575 W | Blower or passive, 2 slots, 70-600 W, fits rack workstations and servers |
| Multi-GPU / virtualisation | Limited; no vGPU | NVLink on some models, vGPU (RTX vWS), multi-GPU stability |
| Display | 4x DP/HDMI | 4x DP 2.1 with sync, 10-bit, Mosaic, up to 8K |
| Warranty & lifecycle | 2-3 years, consumer | 3 years, long availability, enterprise support |
| Price (UAE) | AED 2,000 - 12,000 | AED 5,000 - 40,000+ |
Which should you buy?
- Gaming, streaming, 3D hobby, video editing: GeForce RTX - best performance per dirham.
- CAD/BIM/CAE in a company, medical imaging, broadcast, multi-monitor control rooms: RTX PRO - certified drivers, ECC and the vendor will support you.
- AI development on a desk: depends on memory - see Best GPU for AI. A 32 GB RTX 5090 is excellent value for training small models; 48-96 GB RTX PRO cards are needed for larger LLMs.
- Servers / data centre: neither - use passive data-centre GPUs (L40S, H100/H200, RTX PRO 6000 Server Edition) with proper airflow and warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Quadro the same as RTX PRO?
Yes - NVIDIA retired the Quadro name; the professional line is now NVIDIA RTX (Ada generation) and NVIDIA RTX PRO (Blackwell generation).
Can I use a GeForce card for SolidWorks or Revit?
It works, but the software vendors certify only professional drivers; viewport bugs and lack of support are possible. For a professional workstation, RTX A/PRO cards are recommended.
