What to check before you buy

• Count the bays you need today and leave room for growth; check whether expansion units are supported.
• Match the network port speed (1GbE, 2.5GbE, 10GbE) to your switch and the number of simultaneous users.
• Use drives rated for NAS or enterprise duty (CMR, 24x7) and check the vendor compatibility list before ordering.
• Plan RAID level (RAID 5/6/10) and a separate backup copy - RAID protects against drive failure, not deletion or ransomware.
• Check the operating system features you need: snapshots, replication, surveillance licences, virtual machine support.
